Ok here’s official word on City trash from Kathy at CMSI –
I just talked to the Deputy Assistant Director of Solid Waste for the South East Sector (how’s that for a title?).
The City will begin picking up trash and recycling in Sterling Knoll in January.
The black trash cans (for garbage) will be delivered to each home on Saturday, December 30. The regular weekly trash day for Sterling Knoll will be on Thursdays. The first pickup will be Thursday, January 4th.
The green trash cans (for recycling) will be delivered to each home on Saturday, January 6th. Recycling will be every other Thursday (schedule B, with the first pickup on January 11.
Yard waste (grass clippings) placed in biodegradable bags next to the trash can will be picked up every Thursday.
They are going to get back to me on the heavy trash schedule, but it will be monthly, with tree debris picked up on odd months, and junk waste picked up on even months.
Trash cans may not be set out any earlier than 6 pm the night before pickup, and are supposed to be put back by 10 pm pickup day. Trash cans may not be stored in public view.
Additional information is available via the Department of Solid Waste web site at www.houstonTX.gov/solidwaste.
I have informed Waste Management, and have also asked how refunds will be handled for those residents who may have already paid the bill for first quarter 2018.
